Vandals is a 3.99$ costing puzzler game which applies graffiti and street art themes. You move through the connected nodes between the grid-like levels while sneaking in order to avoid the police detection. After you move, the police make their move. If you walk into their line of sight you’ll get caught promptly. In each level your goal is to make it to the determined graffiti spot and spray paint your design over the wall, then make it through the exit, without getting caught by the policemen.
You can as well whistle to draw nearby guards’ attention and sneak past them. The guards thankfully happen not to be very smart for most of the game, so you can usually just get out of their line of sight. You’ll be also able to pick up bottles which you can throw further than you can whistle, in way to create diversions. Ideally it would be better to send your enemies far away, and then spray calmly. On each level you’re given a fresh canvas, and while you can just use the name you put in (with a variety of different fonts) you can also draw your own graffiti. There isn’t a time limit, or any bonus of drawing your own custom graffiti, it’s just a cheerful thing that might be done.
The game gives three stars for every level: Completing without being seen; Getting the bonus star; and Completing under a particular number of moves. You can as well complete levels without taking any stars at all, though getting stars unlocks other levels, including side quest levels you can play as well. The cops have a very predictable behavior, as much as you won’t feel very challenged, especially during the first levels. The game also generates more than just putting you to spray graffiti and street art. There are photographs which you can tap through several levels which will show you information on street art history, and educate you over famous street artists over history. The game itself takes place in different periods of history in famous cities of the world, and real artists from those scenes are featured in these little info cards.
Vandals can be played one-handed on a bus or train. It’s a convenience factor that many games, especially puzzles, tend to underestimate. You just need to get to a specific place, design some paint, then get out without getting captured by the police. It’s probably easier said than done. You can toss bottles in order to distract them, or blow a whistle to get their attention. However, as soon as you spray, they’ll come after you. As you pass through the levels the attackers get genuinely more versatile. They’ll stalk along paths, and you’ll need to use environmental tricks to get past them. Like hiding inside a bush, or diving into the sewers and popping out somewhere else. You either swipe to move your character over one node or tap over the node you want your character to move to. Obviously, there has to be a path connecting the two nodes or it won’t work. You’ll always have some tools at your disposal. You will always have a whistle, but you can only blow it if a cop is within hearing distance. The cop will head towards the sound, allowing you to access the spot he started in, as long as you get in and out before he turns back and sees you. You can as well pick up a glass bottle on some levels, carry it around, and then throw it somewhere away from you to attract cops to it. The bottle has a longer range from which you can throw it, as well as a louder sound, so cops can hear it from farther away. Spraying the wall with paint also makes a noise, so if the cops are situated within a hearing distance, they’ll head towards that spot. This makes every level about using these sounds to make the cops go where you want so you can get where you need to be. Later, you’ll also have manholes that act as teleports, wire-cutters to get through fences, and new kinds of enemies to deal with. The terrain also shakes things up, as a cop can hear you if you’re on a platform above them, but they won’t be able to see you the same way they would if you were on the same level as them. The game also supports Apple Pencil and so drawings can be extremely detailed if you’ve got the right kit and furthermore you can share your drawings with your friends online.
Without wasting anymore time we’re providing you with this step-by-step walkthrough guide with the solutions of getting 3 stars in each level.
Glossary:
- Graffiti: In each level, you need to spray paint a wall before making it to the exit. When you paint, it will attract the cops to your spot.
- Bonus Star: You can pick up a bonus star in each level. You need a certain number of total stars to unlock bonus levels.
- Move Count: In each level, you get a star if you complete it within the move count.
- Invisible: The third star is for making it to the exit without being seen by any cops.
- Cops: You need to avoid being seen by cops. They only catch you if you’re one move in front of them, though. And sometimes even then you can still get away from them. If they catch you, your game will automatically be over.
- Dotted Lines: Cops can’t walk on dotted lines, but they can see you and catch you across one.
- Whistle: Use this to attract cops to your spot if you want to distract them from another spot.
- Bottle: You can pick this up and carry it around, then throw it to attract and distract cops to a spot away from you.
- Range: If you hold down on the whistle or paint can icons, you can see how far their range reaches. You can do the same for the each of the spots that you can throw the bottle to.
Chapter 1, Paris 1968:
Starting out, head towards the nodes. Walk twice straight and then once left. Blow the whistle to attract the policeman. As he start walking towards the opposite direction sneak past him and collect the bonus point in the corner on the bottom right. Then continue in front of the wall to paint your design quickly. As soon as you’ll be done continue at the exit on your right.
Chapter 2:
Walk through the given path between the nodes and collect the bottle within your second movement. Through the bottle in the middle of the fenced square looking-like to distract the policeman. As soon as the policeman start walking towards the noise walk just behind him to get the bonus collectible in prior to the bottom right corner. Now, move in front of the wall and paint it over. Afterwards continue on the left to finish the level.
Chapter 3:
This is the chapter where you’ll face several cops together for the first time. Move just once straight and blow the whistle there. The cop on the left will start walking towards you from the above path. Take a shortcut to the left through the fence breach and get the bonus collectible which you’ll spot in the straight path. Now blow the whistle again just before the moving policeman has arrived parallel to the fence. When he starts walking the opposite direction head up and get the bottle. Now walk in between the two square with plants and through the bottle to where you started the level. As both policemen walk towards where the noise was heard, go in front of the van at the bottom right and finish your paint. After finishing the graffiti don’t hurry to the exit, but wait until a third appearing cop passes from right to left and then continue to the exit to finish the level.
Chapter 4:
The first thing you need to do is painting the wall at your first turn on the right. As you finish, the policeman will be headed towards you. Avoid him while you make sure to get the bottle from the ground on the right corner. Throw the bottle to where your graffiti is now located and then walk towards the bonus point to grab it. From that point you’ll be safe to finish the level perfectly.
Chapter 5:
Move twice straight and blow the whistle. Wait for the first cop to pass by, blow your whistle again and then move through the fence to the opposite side. Go and finish the paint in front of the wall and then move back to where you’ll collect the bonus coin. Wait for the policemen to be in front of the just painted wall and then sneak past them to the exit.
Chapter 6:
Walk straight two times and collect the bottle. Throw the bottle right in the middle point where the two policemen are actually standing. Head straight and complete the drawing. After finishing with the paint, walk through the fence breach next to the wall you just drawed and collect the other bottle located there. Throw the bottle near to where you began the level and then go and collect the bonus coin. After go straight to the exit point.
