Yokai Dungeon is a pixel art game which reminds us of the games of the late 20th century. It’s considered cute due to its lovely characters and beautiful Japanese soundtrack. The game is pretty simple, you just need to slam the enemies against the wall by pushing objects.
There’s a total of 20 heroes you can unlock and each of them has unique stats and you can also equip items with special abilities. What’s really special about the game is that you can explore the beautiful Japanese folklore.
Game’s story
It’s the lantern festival and everyone is gathered. Meanwhile, Tanuki a cute-serious fox is guarding the village. Suddenly, lightning strikes the nearby shrine and removes the protection charm from a very old jar. This will cause evil spirits to be free and cause problems. A giant evil spirit introduces itself as Tatarigami, the spirit who brings sorrow and destruction.
It’s your duty to defeat all the pesky yokai and save the festival.
The game offers a tutorial so that you can easily learn how to play and get to know with the game’s rules. Here are a few bits of advice that’ll help you during the game:
- Try to memorize the movement patterns of the enemies. This is really helpful when there are lots of enemies in the area and you know who goes where.
- Push the blocks smartly. Don’t start pushing the blocks immediately because even if the game looks simple enough, it also requires a little bit of thinking. Pushing important blocks into places where you can no longer access them is the main factor that ruins the game. Do not do that!
- Coins. Whenever you defeat enemies and bosses, coins fall down from the sky. You need to get them all but sometimes you can’t because walking into them is not fast enough. It’s best to push blocks into their paths to get as many coins as possible. More coins means more items.
Yokai Dungeon is available for both Android and IOS, and it’s entirely free.
